McDonald’s will launch a limited-time holiday drink lineup on Nov. 3, following its beverage expansion across nearly 14,000 U.S. locations. The Chicago-based chain is giving fans a head start on the celebratory season with cranberry, cookie butter and Red Bull flavors.
That lineup follows a broader drink push that began in May, when McDonald’s introduced refreshers, dirty sodas and energy drinks. Franchisees also are adding a beverage specialist role as the chain’s drink menu becomes more complicated.
Which drinks are coming Nov. 3?
- Frosted Cranberry Splash with Sprite combines lemon-lime soda with orange and cranberry flavors, then adds cold foam and cranberry sprinkles.
- Red Bull Frosted Cranberry Energizer pairs frosted cranberry, cold foam and sprinkles with Red Bull. It will be available with classic Red Bull and Red Bull Zero.
- Cookie Butter Frappé, Latte and Iced Coffee feature a creamy cookie-butter blend topped with caramel cookie crumbs and sweet vanilla whip.
The lineup splits into two cranberry concepts and one cookie-butter family. McDonald’s says the Red Bull Frosted Cranberry Energizer is designed “to give consumers a lift during the holiday rush.”
Why is McDonald’s moving into the holiday season early?
McDonald’s is among several chains starting holiday beverage promotions early. Beverage innovation is also moving beyond traditional peppermint and gingerbread, with cranberry and cookie butter offering a different festive profile.
The announcement portrays consumers as eager to overlap those drinks with pumpkin-spice season. It provides no consumer-research figures or demand forecast, so that enthusiasm remains a positioning claim rather than a measured result.
Technomic’s Top 500 data provides the economic context: chain-restaurant sales slowed again in 2025 as consumers cut back on dining. Coffee, beverages, snacks and chicken thrived within that slowdown, making the beverage category a relative point of strength, though no holiday-sales forecast accompanies McDonald’s launch.
What does this change for franchisees?
The clearest operating change is a new role tied to drink execution. Restaurant Business Editor-in-Chief Jonathan Maze reported that franchisees were adding a beverage specialist to their teams to make sure drinks were made consistently. The position is intended to standardize preparation as cold foam, blended drinks, sprinkles and energy options broaden the menu.
For franchisees, the economic test is whether those drinks raise beverage sales and check averages enough to offset ingredient, labor and preparation demands. McDonald’s has not disclosed prices, sales projections, gross margins or labor percentages, so the announcement offers no basis for judging whether the lineup improves unit profitability.
The rollout also remains less defined than the nearly 14,000-location system figure. McDonald’s does not specify company-operated versus franchised participation, whether every location carries the full lineup, or whether company-operated restaurants will use the beverage-specialist model.
That distinction matters to operators evaluating training and throughput. More beverage occasions can create revenue paths, but only if added drink complexity does not slow service.
What should the launch prove?
For customers, the launch offers a Sprite-based cranberry soda, a Red Bull crossover and a cookie-butter trio in frappé, latte and iced coffee. The practical change is greater beverage variety at McDonald’s; whether it lasts beyond holiday curiosity will depend on repeat demand.
The next test is operational: whether the beverage-specialist model can maintain consistency across the expanded menu. McDonald’s has set the start date and flavors; prices, location-level availability and sales performance will determine whether this becomes a meaningful business beyond the holiday promotion.
