Jollibee Hits $5M Unit Volumes in U.S., Outpacing Rivals on 80 Stores

Jollibee's 80 U.S. stores average over $5 million each, dwarfing Popeyes and KFC, as the Philippine chain targets 500 locations and a U.S. IPO.

Jollibee finished 2025 with nearly $390 million in U.S. sales across just 80 locations, pushing average unit volumes above $5 million — nearly triple the $1.8 million Popeyes generates and roughly four times KFC's $1.3 million, according to Technomic Top 500 data. Bojangles units average $2.3 million.

The Philippine brand's 17% year-over-year sales increase stands out in a chicken category that grew 5.3% in 2025, outpacing the broader industry by more than 2 percentage points but still representing a 7% slowdown over the past two years. Chicken demand remains strong, but the segment has become crowded.

Jollibee did not enter the U.S. until 1998, after more than two decades building its home market in the Philippines and expanding to a footprint spanning 17 countries. It now ranks as the 129th-largest chain by U.S. sales.

David Beal, global chief marketing officer of parent company Jollibee Group, said the performance reflects appeal among mainstream local consumers, including in markets where customers had no prior familiarity with the brand.

"The U.S. chicken category is highly competitive, with strong brands and very high consumer expectations. We do not try to succeed by becoming a copy of another chicken brand. We focus on what makes Jollibee distinctive: the taste and quality of Chickenjoy, good value, warm and joyful hospitality, and a differentiated overall experience," Beal said.

Chickenjoy, the chain's hand-breaded fried chicken, uses a secret marinade to balance a crispy exterior with a juicy interior. The menu also spans hamburgers, sweet Jolly Spaghetti and the signature Peach Mango Pie made with Philippine mangoes. USA Today readers have voted Jollibee's fried chicken the No. 1 fast-food chicken for three consecutive years, a ranking Beal said builds credibility among first-time customers.

"Joyful hospitality" anchors the brand alongside corporate values of "customer focus, spirit of family, integrity, humility to listen and learn, and speed with excellence." Earlier this year, Jollibee earned Gallup's highest workplace honor and its fifth consecutive engagement award.

Beal called those recognitions an invitation to try the brand, not the reason customers stay.

"We earn trust and loyalty through the quality of every meal and every visit," he said.

Localization drives much of the strategy. Jollibee offers Chili Chicken in Vietnam, Spicy Spaghetti in Malaysia, Spicy Nuggets in Brunei, and chicken burgers, tenders and nuggets in the United States. Beal said the approach has produced strong local patronage: local customers make up nearly 100% of patronage in Vietnam and Brunei, about 97% in the United Kingdom, 85% in Singapore, 70% in Hong Kong and 60% in the U.S.

"The strong local customer mix in several international markets is an important proof point. It shows that Jollibee is not dependent on prior brand familiarity; customers are choosing it because they connect with the food, value, hospitality, and experience," Beal said.

That evidence underpins the company's growth plan. Jollibee targets 500 U.S. stores by 2030 and launched franchising in the market last year to accelerate the buildout. The company also plans to file for a U.S. IPO next year.

Beal said unit counts alone will not define success, however.

"It will be whether customers continue to choose our brands, employees and franchisees can succeed with us, and whether we continue to earn trust and spread joy," he said.

With company-operated volumes already far above every major U.S. chicken competitor, Jollibee enters its franchise expansion and IPO preparation with unit economics that give it room to court operators in a slowing category.
