BNO Travel Turns In-House Ops Software Into Commercial Product

BNO Travel is selling its in-house operations platform commercially. BNO Service ties housekeeping and maintenance task times to labor costs and per-assignment margins via Mews.

After nearly a year of development and internal use, BNO Travel is launching BNO Service as a commercial software product for hotels, destination companies and lodging providers. Visit Stranda has signed the first external software and license agreement, and the platform is now also listed in the Mews Marketplace.

BNO Service handles operations and workforce management across hotels, resorts, vacation rentals and serviced accommodations. Its direct integration with the Mews Connector API converts reservation, unit and product data into operational workflows for housekeeping, cleaning, maintenance and other service tasks — replacing manual task creation with automated assignment generation whenever bookings change.

"We initially developed BNO Service because we needed better control of our own operations, actual working time and the profitability of individual assignments. Over time, we realized that these challenges were not unique to us. That is why we have built BNO Service so that the same technology can also be used by other lodging providers," says Jan Terje Ås, Managing Director of BNO Travel AS.

From internal tool to priced product

The platform originated as an internal tool for BNO Travel's own operations. It supports automatic task creation driven by Mews reservations and products, workforce planning, team management, standard task times, checklists, documentation and employee time tracking.

The economic core sits in what happens after work is completed. Completed assignments feed operational reporting, payroll preparation, labor-cost calculations and profitability and contribution-margin analysis at the level of the individual assignment — moving housekeeping and maintenance from a pure cost center into measurable, per-task unit economics.

"For us, connecting operations with the financial side of the business has been essential. It is not enough to know that a housekeeping assignment has been completed. We also want to understand how much time was actually spent, what it cost and whether the assignment was profitable," says Ås.

The Mews integration

Because BNO Service connects directly to the Mews Connector API, reservations, units and products in Mews generate assignments automatically. Operational teams receive updated information without anyone creating tasks by hand.

The platform targets multi-property and multi-company operations, with interfaces for management, team leaders and operational employees. Distribution runs through the Mews Marketplace as an operations and workforce management solution, positioning it alongside other third-party tools in the Mews ecosystem.

Built for multilingual workforces

The employee app supports 21 languages. The administration interface comes in 8. For operators staffing housekeeping and maintenance teams across nationalities, language support is native to the product rather than a later add-on.

"Hospitality is an international industry, even at local level. Many lodging businesses employ people who speak different languages, so we wanted language support to be part of the product itself rather than something added later," says Ås.

Visit Stranda signs first

Visit Stranda, the destination organization, is the first external commercial customer. The agreement marks the shift from software built around BNO Travel's own requirements to a standalone, licensable product.

"Having an external organization choose to implement the platform is an important milestone for us. We are moving from developing software primarily around our own operational requirements to building a product that can scale across hotels, destination companies and lodging businesses," says Ås.

What comes next

BNO Travel will market BNO Service to hotels, resorts, destination organizations, vacation rental operators and other lodging businesses, sold through software license and subscription agreements.

"Our ambition is not to build another generic task-management platform. We want to create a specialized operational tool designed around the actual challenges faced by the lodging industry," says Ås.

With a first external customer signed and Mews Marketplace distribution in place, BNO Travel's next test will be whether per-assignment profitability tracking proves persuasive enough to win license deals beyond its home market.
