Tropical Smoothie Cafe has signed a 40-unit franchise development agreement covering New York and Connecticut, with franchisee Aurify Kingstar set to build across four markets: Albany, Westchester County, the Bronx and Western Connecticut.

The first location under the deal is scheduled to open in early 2027. That timeline gives the brand a multi-year runway in dense suburban and urban territories where it currently has limited penetration.

"New York and Connecticut represent tremendous growth opportunities for Tropical Smoothie Cafe," the company said in announcing the agreement.

What does the deal change for the brand?

The agreement is a franchise development deal, not a corporate expansion. Aurify Kingstar, not Tropical Smoothie Cafe's parent, will carry the capital cost of building the 40 units. That structure shifts real estate, construction and pre-opening labor costs to the franchisee while extending the brand's footprint and royalty base.

For a smoothie and food chain, 40 units across a single multi-market agreement ranks as a substantial commitment. It signals a franchisee's confidence in unit-level economics — site costs, buildout and labor availability — across territories that mix urban density (the Bronx) with suburban markets (Westchester County, Albany) and a smaller metro region in Western Connecticut.

The market spread matters. A single franchisee operating across four distinct geographies will need to manage different real estate costs, wage levels and permitting timelines. Albany and Westchester County carry different cost structures than the Bronx, and multi-market franchisees typically phase openings accordingly.

Who is Aurify Kingstar?

Aurify Kingstar is the franchisee of record on the deal. Tropical Smoothie Cafe structured the agreement as a multi-unit development commitment, meaning the 40 cafes will roll out on a schedule rather than as single-site approvals.

The company did not disclose in the announcement the total investment value of the agreement, per-unit buildout costs or specific site selections beyond the named territories.

What happens next

The first opening in early 2027 will be the test case. Site selection, permitting and construction in the New York metro area typically run 12 to 24 months, which means the development pipeline behind this deal effectively starts now. Watch for announced locations in the Bronx and Westchester County first, where dense trade areas support faster site turnover than outlying markets.
