Spire Hospitality has promoted 25-year hospitality veteran Shozib Khan to senior vice president of a newly created Strategic Asset Performance division, folding financial planning, hotel systems, information technology, hotel resources and AI strategy under one ownership-facing umbrella at the Irving, Texas-based management company.

The division launches with Khan in charge of the consolidated functions, the company announced — the most senior operational restructuring Spire has disclosed. Spire manages Marriott, Hilton and independent properties and operates as part of the AWH Partners family, which also includes AWH Development, headquartered in New York.

What does the new division do?

Strategic Asset Performance pairs financial modeling with property-level decision making. The unit will:

  • Build financial models around key decisions and performance opportunities
  • Provide executive oversight to selected hotels that need extra attention
  • Move financial planning from backward-looking reporting to predictive forecasting
  • Connect financial planning, business intelligence and technology into one execution model

"Owners expect their management partners to do more than explain performance after the fact," CEO Richard Sandoval said. "We need to see opportunities sooner and have the structure to act on them."

Sandoval framed the move as an accountability play rather than a technology announcement. The bigger unsolved problem in hospitality, he argued, is connecting the data companies now collect to the decisions property teams make day to day.

How is AI embedded?

Rather than running AI as a separate innovation track, Spire is folding it into operations. The company wants machine learning to make forecasting more predictive, retire manual processes and surface opportunities that get missed in monthly reports.

"The next evolution of hotel performance is seeing where the opportunity is before it shows up in a month-end report," Khan said. "We're moving financial intelligence closer to the property, putting the right resources behind what we find, and doing it fast enough to change the outcome — not just report on it."

For operators, the financial mechanics matter: earlier visibility into the cost pressures that erode hotel performance gives general managers time to retool mix, trim contracted services or adjust rate strategy before the month closes.

What changes for ownership partners?

For owners — Spire's core customer base — the restructuring reframes the relationship from monthly reporting to active portfolio intervention. Decisions will run through an ownership lens, with the data layer and on-property execution moving in step.

The structure mirrors what asset-management arms at larger third-party operators have built over the past several years. Spire is bringing that accountability construct to the owners it works with: independent resorts, lifestyle hotels and select-service properties across Marriott and Hilton systems.

Who is running it?

Khan is an award-winning former general manager with more than 25 years of hospitality experience across hotel operations and enterprise functions. He most recently served as Spire's vice president of owner services and previously as vice president of hotel performance and analytics. As SVP, he now owns Spire's AI and enterprise automation strategy alongside his expanded operational remit.

Sandoval said Khan's promotion reflects the impact he has already had across the business.

What comes next?

Strategic Asset Performance goes live immediately under Khan, Spire said. Whether the unit's predictive forecasting tools and consolidated operating team translate into measurable performance gains for ownership partners will determine whether the restructuring functions as a strategic upgrade or an organizational reshuffle.
