Only 7% of Hotel PMS Vendors Publish Full API Docs, Audit Finds
Terence Ronson's agent tests split the majors on checkout access, HVS reports 7.8% room revenue growth through August, and a 2027 accountability deadline now looms for hotel AI.

Only 7% of 343 hotel PMS vendors publish fully public API documentation, according to the AI Hospitality Alliance's audit. That figure anchors a World Panel viewpoint asking whether availability, rates and inventory plumbing is the main impediment to agentic AI booking. The question has live evidence behind it. Terence Ronson's agent tests on October 19 found Marriott, IHG, Accor and Choice letting agents reach checkout, while Hyatt, Hilton and Wyndham returned inconsistent results. The panel invites practitioners to weigh in from their own systems.
The gap matters for a simple commercial reason: an agent that cannot complete checkout cannot book, and the distribution chain sits between hotel and revenue. If the constraint is plumbing rather than model capability, the fix is technical spend, not model choice. The viewpoint does not settle the question. It records that the majors themselves split cleanly on it.
Who Is Accountable When a Hotel's AI Acts?
Burcin Turkkan Zencirli asks the question that follows the plumbing: accountability. Regulators now treat AI that acts differently from AI that assists. Singapore published an agentic AI governance framework in January 2026 and updated it in May. China issued its first national policy on AI agents in May, and its TC260 standards body made agents a distinct risk category in the AI Safety Governance Framework 3.0 in September.
Zencirli's term is delegated digital authority: the authority an organization grants an autonomous system to access information, make decisions, initiate transactions or act on its behalf within defined boundaries. The hospitality-specific problem is that this authority is split. The property, management company, brand, owner and vendors each hold part of it, so technical access to several systems does not mean one party can authorize everything an agent does.
Her proposed architecture has seven components: identity, authority, human control, data access, traceability, external-agent governance and accountability. On accountability she cites Moffatt v. Air Canada (2024), where a tribunal held the airline liable for what its website chatbot said. Every autonomous workflow should lead back to one named accountable sponsor. The piece also flags a deadline: under the Digital Omnibus amendments, EU AI Act obligations for AI used in recruitment, promotion and termination decisions apply from 2 December 2027.
What Does the HVS Tax Report Show?
Thomas Hazinski and Henry Detmer's 16th annual HVS Lodging Tax Study covers all 50 states and the 150 largest U.S. cities. In 2025, ten of the top 25 markets grew room revenue, Philadelphia was flat, and 14 declined. San Francisco led at up 14.5%. Las Vegas trailed at down 10.4%.
Through August 2026, combined room revenue across the 25 markets rose 7.8% to about $37.3 billion, and RevPAR rose in all but one market. Austin was the exception, because its convention center is closed for redevelopment.
The report's forward point concerns the base. The 2026 FIFA World Cup produced an estimated $680 million in incremental rooms revenue across eleven U.S. host markets, $339.2 million of it in New York. No comparable event is scheduled for 2027. HVS says lodging tax collections growth in 2027 may fall below historical trends. The same $680 million figure appeared in HVS's World Cup analysis on August 7, and the warning matches the 2027 comparison problem raised when U.S. ADR hit its record in September.

Feras Habil, writing for hotel technology vendor Shiji, argues data readiness, not software selection, determines whether a PMS migration succeeds. He outlines a seven-step cleansing and validation framework, building on Shiji's PMS migration guide of September 30. The claim is vendor-adjacent; the framework's cost is unstated.

Deals and People
HVS bulletins for the week ending October 23 cover six European and five Asia Pacific deals. The European list includes Pandox portfolio sales in Denmark and Sweden and Novotel London Paddington. The Asia Pacific list runs from a HKD2.7 billion dual-hotel acquisition in Hong Kong to an AUD180 million Queensland mixed-use approval.
Preferred Hotels & Resorts added 28 independent properties in Q3 2026, its largest quarterly intake since 2024, spanning Europe, Asia, the Americas and the Maldives.

The Mark Hotel will add a wellness and longevity spa by Augustinus Bader, Delano London opens in early 2027, and The Social Hub filed plans for a £200 million Edinburgh destination.
The near-term tests are concrete: agent checkout consistency across the majors, a 2027 accountability deadline in the EU, and lodging tax collections measured against a World Cup-inflated base.
