Monique Siu, one of Portland's most enduring restaurateurs, will retire after 35 years and close OK Omens, the wine-forward restaurant she operates on Southeast Morrison Street, according to The Portland Tribune.

The closure marks the end of a career that spanned some of the city's defining dining rooms. Siu co-founded Zefiro, the Northwest Portland restaurant widely credited with helping establish the city's modern dining identity in the early 1990s, before going on to found Castagna, the fine-dining establishment on Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard that carried a national reputation under her ownership.

OK Omens opened as a more casual successor in Siu's portfolio, built around wine service and a neighborhood-scale format rather than the tasting-menu economics of Castagna. Its closure removes another independent operator from a Portland market that has shed a series of chef-driven restaurants in recent years.

Siu told The Portland Tribune the decision stems from her retirement after 35 years in the business. The restaurant did not announce a successor operator for the space.
