Michelin Adds More Than a Dozen Houston Restaurants for 2026

Michelin Guide Texas adds more than a dozen Houston restaurants for its 2026 edition, expanding the city's footprint in the statewide guide first launched in 2024.

The Michelin Guide Texas has added more than a dozen Houston restaurants to its 2026 selection. That is the count. The city's dining scene now carries substantially more of the state's recognized kitchens than in the guide's debut Texas edition.

What does the addition mean for Houston operators?

The number matters more than the honor. A Michelin selection — the guide's mid-tier recognition below the starred Bib Gourmand and Star levels — reliably moves reservation volume, check averages and out-of-market travel bookings for listed restaurants. Operators in other guide markets have reported sustained double-digit reservation growth after inclusion.

Houston's restaurants now sit alongside Austin, Dallas, San Antonio and Fort Worth establishments in the statewide guide. Michelin launched the Texas guide in 2024 under a tourism partnership with the state, and Houston's initial cohort drew criticism for its size relative to the city's restaurant count. The 2026 additions, totaling more than a dozen venues, correct some of that imbalance.

Who benefits, and how directly?

For independent operators, inclusion functions as unpaid marketing with a measurable return: covers filled, wine lists moved, tasting menus booked weeks out. For the city, it feeds the convention and visitor economy that underwrites the state's investment in the guide.

The guide's economic logic is straightforward. Tourism bodies pay Michelin for coverage; restaurants pay nothing; diners pay the check. Houston's expanded slate strengthens the case for that arrangement to continue.

What comes next?

Michelin will reveal which of the newly added Houston restaurants receive higher distinctions — Bib Gourmand awards (value-for-money recognition) or Stars — at its annual ceremony. The 2026 selection suggests Houston's operator community has deepened its case for full guide treatment in future editions.
