Leonardo Hotels Adds Three Properties in Munich, Hanover and Braunschweig

Leonardo Hotels has acquired three hotels across Munich, Hanover and Braunschweig, deepening its hold on the German mid-market under the Fattal Group.

Leonardo Hotels has acquired three hotels in Munich, Hanover and Braunschweig, extending one of the most aggressive expansion runs in the European mid-market segment.

The transaction adds properties in three distinct German demand profiles: Munich, a top-tier corporate and trade-fair market with persistently constrained hotel supply; Hanover, a secondary fair-driven market with heavy reliance on MICE cycles; and Braunschweig, a smaller regional city where institutional ownership and limited new-build competition shape pricing power.

Leonardo Hotels, part of the Israel-based Fattal Hotel Group, has built its European position largely through acquisition rather than organic development. Germany is the company's largest single market, and the latest purchases reinforce a portfolio strategy that targets mid-scale and upper-midscale assets in cities where branded supply remains fragmented relative to the independents.

The deal follows a pattern Leonardo has repeated across the continent: buy operating hotels, rebrand them under the Leonardo, NYX or Leonardo Royal banners, and push rate through centralized distribution and loyalty infrastructure rather than through capital-intensive repositioning. That model keeps conversion costs low relative to ground-up development and shortens the payback window on acquired assets — a critical factor as European transaction volumes recover under pressure from elevated debt costs.

For sellers, the willingness of a well-capitalized group like Fattal to transact in secondary markets such as Braunschweig signals liquidity returning to segments that larger operators have historically avoided. For competitors, three more Leonardo-flagged rooms in Munich sharpen the fight in a market where corporate rate growth has outpaced most German cities.

Neither the purchase price nor the identities of the sellers were disclosed in the announcement, and Leonardo has not yet detailed rebranding timelines or renovation budgets for the three properties.
