Leonardo Hotels Adds 735 Rooms in Three German Acquisitions

Leonardo Hotels has acquired three properties adding 735 rooms across Munich, Hanover and Braunschweig, expanding its Munich count to twelve hotels and entering Braunschweig for the first time.

Leonardo Hotels has added 735 rooms to its German portfolio through the acquisition of three former Revo properties in Munich, Hanover and Braunschweig, the company announced. The deal marks Leonardo's first entry into Braunschweig and lifts its count in Munich to twelve hotels.

The three assets will operate under new flags once converted. The former HYPERION Hotel Munich becomes the Leonardo Royal Munich Bavaria Towers, delivering 341 rooms and studios plus roughly 700 square metres of meetings space across six rooms. The property, located in the Bogenhausen Tor complex near Prinzregentenplatz, also carries a front-cooking restaurant, bar and lounge, gym, more than 130 parking bays and electric-vehicle charging.

What does each property contribute to the portfolio?

  • Munich: 341 rooms; 12th Leonardo hotel in the city; 290-person meeting capacity
  • Hanover: 220 rooms; 4th Leonardo hotel in the Lower Saxony capital; 14 storeys
  • Braunschweig: 174 rooms; first Leonardo presence; adjacent to main railway station

The Hanover property, previously the Intercity Hotel Hannover, rebrands as the Leonardo Hannover City Center. It sits directly east of the main railway station and adds five conference spaces — three of which combine — alongside a restaurant, outdoor terrace and bar.

In Braunschweig, the former Intercity Hotel will run as the Leonardo Braunschweig City Center. The 174-key property includes four air-conditioned meeting rooms with conference technology, a restaurant and a bar. Its location next to the Hauptbahnhof places it within walking distance of Castle Square, the Cathedral of Saint Blaise, Brunswick Palace and the St. Magnus Quarter.

Who were the sellers and what was the operator pitch?

The hotels were held by institutional investors Real I.S., Deka Immobilien and Swiss Life. Leonardo positioned the takeover as a fit with its mixed-profile network strategy.

Jan Heringa, Vice President of Development and Project Management at Leonardo Hotels Central Europe, said: "These three hotels encompass different profiles and contrasting business environments — a large-scale conference and events venue in Munich, an inner-city location in Hanover and an entirely new venture in Braunschweig. This diversity is a good match for our approach of developing a network which extends across various locations and provides a range of hotel services."

Hendrik Kob, Director of Asset Management at Real I.S., which owns the Hanover property, said: "With Leonardo Hotels, we have secured not only an experienced operator with a strong credit rating, but also ensured a virtually seamless transition thanks to the excellent cooperation."

How does the deal fit Leonardo's wider footprint?

Founded in 2006 as the European arm of the Fattal Hotel Group, Leonardo Hotels now operates more than 300 properties across 21 countries. Its brand family spans Leonardo Hotels, Leonardo Royal, Leonardo Boutique, Leonardo Limited Edition and NYX Hotels. The group did not disclose financial terms of the transaction or timing for the rebrands.

The acquisitions deepen Leonardo's concentration in two established German gateway markets while planting its flag in a third. Munich and Hanover both absorb meaningful new inventory within walkable commercial corridors, while Braunschweig gives it a foothold in a regional centre underserved by international upper-midscale brands. Conversion costs, branding timelines and any re-flagging of F&B concepts will determine how quickly the 735-room uplift translates into revenue — and whether Leonardo follows the Braunschweig debut with further mid-tier German expansion in 2026.
