Leonardo Hotels Acquires the Bristol from the Doyle Collection

Leonardo Hotels has bought the Bristol hotel in London from the Doyle Collection, adding another UK address to a portfolio that has grown steadily since the Israeli-backed group pushed into the British market more than a decade ago.

The deal, reported by The Caterer, hands Leonardo a freehold-quality asset in one of Europe's most supply-constrained hotel markets. The Doyle Collection, a family-owned Irish group, has been trimming its footprint and refocusing on core properties in Dublin and the US.

For Leonardo, the logic is straightforward. London occupancy and rate have held up better than most European capitals, and buying an established hotel — rather than building one — cuts years off the timeline. Acquisitions like this replace the slower route of ground-up development, where construction costs and planning delays can push timelines past five years.

What does this change for the Bristol?

Ownership shifts; the property keeps operating as a hotel. New ownership typically means fresh capital for refurbishment, possible rebranding toward Leonardo's Royal or Leonardo formats, and integration into the group's booking and loyalty infrastructure. For the Doyle Collection, the sale frees capital for its remaining properties.

Neither party disclosed the purchase price in initial reports, which is common in private hotel transactions of this size.

Expect Leonardo to fold the Bristol into its UK operating structure in the coming months, with any rebrand or renovation program announced after handover.
