Hyatt's Canadian Hotel Portfolio Has Quadrupled Since 2017
Hyatt's open-hotel count in Canada has quadrupled since 2017, with 40+ deals pending, 10 openings targeted for 2027, and new brands Hyatt Select and Hyatt Studios debuting.

Hyatt's portfolio of open hotels in Canada has quadrupled since 2017, and the company expects a record 10 hotel openings in 2027 — its largest opening year ever in the country.
The pipeline behind that number runs deeper than one strong year. More than 40 deals are in various stages across Canada, and the growth strategy leans on two things: new brands built for conversion and extended-stay formats, and partnerships that bring independent properties into Hyatt's global commercial platform without erasing their identities.
"Our growth reflects the strength of our relationships with owners and developers, the breadth of our brands and the flexibility of our development models," said Julienne Smith, Head of Americas Growth, Hyatt. "Canada remains an important market with significant opportunity to expand our brand presence."
Her Canada counterpart framed the owner relationship in more personal terms. "At Hyatt, business is personal. It's about understanding our owners' goals, earning their trust and creating lasting value for them and our guests," said Scott Richer, Head of Growth, Canada, Hyatt.
What has opened so far?
Recent additions span market types and travel needs:
- The Clayfield, The Unbound Collection by Hyatt — Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario
- Hyatt Place Vancouver / Metrotown — Burnaby, BC
- Hyatt Regency Niagara Falls Fallsview — Niagara Falls, ON
- Hyatt House Thunder Bay — Thunder Bay, ON
The list mixes leisure destinations, a gateway-metro select-service property and a smaller-market extended-stay house — a deliberate spread across segments rather than a single bet.
What does the pipeline change for owners and guests?
Three developments stand out.
Park Hyatt Vancouver will establish the luxury brand on the West Coast, complementing the iconic Park Hyatt Toronto in the east. Together, the two properties would anchor Park Hyatt in two of Canada's most important gateway cities and materially strengthen Hyatt's luxury tier in the country.
Unscripted by Hyatt is entering Canada through a collaboration with Haida Enterprise Corporation, the economic development arm of the Haida Nation. The brand offers independent hotels a flexible path into Hyatt's global network while preserving their distinct identities. Two properties will join: Haida House at Tllaal (Tlell) and Ocean House at Tlaga Gawtlaas (Old Massett), both on Graham Island in Haida Gwaii, British Columbia.
"Haida House and Ocean House are distinctly Haida Gwaii, and that will remain at the heart of who we are," said Leticia Hill, CEO of Haida Enterprise Corporation. "This collaboration with the Unscripted by Hyatt brand gives us an opportunity to share these special places with a broader audience while maintaining our Haida ownership, identity and connection to Haida Gwaii."
Two upper-midscale brands are also debuting. Hyatt Select, designed for hotel conversions, targets secondary and tertiary markets with a flexible conversion pathway for owners and modern design for guests. Hyatt Studios is purpose-built for extended stays, with apartment-style suites, kitchens and practical amenities aimed at longer visits. Both brands connect owners to Hyatt's commercial capabilities and the World of Hyatt loyalty program.
The rollout schedule is concrete. Hyatt Select Kingston opens later this year in Ontario, marking the brand's Canadian debut. In 2027, Hyatt Select Prince Albert and Hyatt Studios Prince Albert will open as a dual-branded development in Saskatchewan — the first Hyatt Studios in Canada.
For owners, the conversion-oriented Hyatt Select format lowers the barrier to entry relative to new construction; for guests and World of Hyatt members, each opening adds redemption and earning locations across segments previously thin on the ground in Canada.
Hyatt says it will keep matching brands to markets with its owner partners, and with 40-plus deals still to convert into openings, 2027 looks less like a peak than a baseline.
