Hilton opened two more Apartment Collection properties on Sept. 30, adding Placemakr Pittsburgh Downtown and Anthem House in Huntsville, Alabama, to a brand that launched with apartment-hospitality operator Placemakr just nine months ago.

A company spokesperson confirmed both openings. The properties join an Apartment Collection portfolio that already includes hotels in Utah, Georgia and Austin, Texas.

The openings "mark another important step in the continued growth" of the Apartment Collection brand and expand Hilton's presence in "two dynamic markets," Michael Snapkoski, brand leader of Apartment Collection by Hilton, said in a Wednesday LinkedIn post.

What do the new properties offer?

Both hotels sit in "fast-growing" areas near culture and community, according to a Hilton spokesperson. Placemakr initially opened both buildings in 2025; the Hilton affiliation now places them inside the company's distribution and loyalty infrastructure.

The Pittsburgh property occupies downtown's historic Pennsylvanian building, steps from the Cultural District. It offers a historic ballroom for meetings and events, cooking areas and in-unit laundry, according to its website.

The Huntsville property sits within a luxury apartment building near the city's MidCity District. Amenities include apartment-style units, an outdoor pool, a 24-hour fitness center and flexible meeting and event space.

How big can the brand get?

Hilton launched Apartment Collection by Hilton in partnership with Placemakr in January. At the time, the companies said the tie-up could add as many as 3,000 units to Hilton's existing global inventory of roughly 10,000 apartment-style units — a potential 30% increase in that segment.

The first two properties under the brand debuted earlier this year in Atlanta and Salt Lake City. Hilton named Snapkoski brand leader of Apartment Collection in April.

The expansion model is conversion-driven: Placemakr brings existing apartment stock, and Hilton attaches its brand rather than building from the ground up.

Who else is chasing the aparthotel guest?

Competition in apartment-style accommodations is intensifying across the major hotel companies:

  • Marriott International operates Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy, with conversions including a Savannah property.
  • Wyndham Hotels & Resorts signed a 10-year U.S. partnership with Reside, launching Reside, a Wyndham Residence.
  • Kasa, an apart-hotel operator, entered a strategic combination with Mint House in January.

Hilton's pace — four-plus markets entered within a year of launch — positions Apartment Collection to keep converting Placemakr-managed properties into Hilton-bookable inventory as the extended-stay and apartment-style segment consolidates.
