TIG Reaper, a Dave's Hot Chicken franchisee operating seven restaurants across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware since 2024, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy with assets and liabilities each ranging from $10 million to $50 million.

The filing stems from an escalating dispute with Bank Midwest, the franchisee's largest creditor, which is owed roughly $8.8 million. The bank accelerated the debt and sued TIG Reaper in September, seeking to seize control of restaurant assets through a court-appointed receiver.

A $30 million sale of TIG Reaper's Dave's Hot Chicken business would have covered the debt, according to the franchisee, but it alleges the bank's litigation pushed a prospective buyer to cut their offer. TIG Reaper has countersued for at least $14 million in damages.

The bankruptcy also raises a structural question about the franchisee's broader portfolio. TIG is asking the court to declare that its Dave's entities do not owe debts tied to its separate 41-location Qdoba business, where it recently defaulted on a $20 million loan. Dave's Hot Chicken corporate stressed that the bankruptcy involves an independent franchisee and said the affected restaurants remain open.

Chipotle reboots Margaritas, five cities at a time

Chipotle Mexican Grill is bringing back $6 Margaritas — one restaurant at a time. The chain said it will pour the cocktail at a single location every weekend in October, with stops in Denver, New York, Dallas, Los Angeles, and New Orleans. The popup tour adds Halloween décor, interactive experiences, and prizes on top of the drinks.

The move tests demand for a beverage program Chipotle once ran at scale. In the early 2000s, many of its restaurants served alcohol, and by 2010 the company's annual report said most locations poured beer and Margaritas. In 2013, Chipotle rolled out a made-to-order Patrón Margarita with premium tequila and fresh juices at most restaurants.

That year, beer and Margarita sales contributed up to 2% of sales and lifted check averages and dinner traffic — the economics that make alcohol attractive to a chain built on speed and throughput. By 2018, only half of locations held liquor licenses, and the share kept shrinking as restaurants stopped renewing them. Customers have pressed for the cocktail's return on social media for years, and the October tour gives Chipotle a low-cost way to measure whether a systemwide relaunch would justify the licensing and operational overhead.

Rock N Roll Sushi taps Rick Gestring as CEO

Rock N Roll Sushi, the casual-dining chain based in Mobile, Alabama, has named Rick Gestring CEO. He succeeds Craig LeMieux, who held the post since 2023.

Gestring most recently served as brand officer of Tasty Restaurant Group, a franchisee operating KFC and Taco Bell restaurants. Before that, he was senior vice president of franchise operations at Honey Baked Ham. His résumé also includes operations leadership roles at Dunkin', Arby's, Starbucks, Peet's Coffee, and Taco Bell — a background weighted heavily toward franchised systems, relevant to a brand expanding beyond its Gulf Coast base.

All three stories land amid another difficult stretch for chain restaurants broadly: Technomic's Top 500 report shows sales slowed again in 2025 as consumers pulled back on dining, though coffee, beverages and snacks, and chicken continued to outperform — a split that helps explain both Dave's Hot Chicken's growth and the financing stress facing multi-brand franchisees carrying heavy debt loads.
