Chipotle Opens Its 1,500th Chipotlane in Bradenton
Chipotle marked its 1,500th Chipotlane opening in Bradenton, Florida. The digital-order drive-thru format generates 15%-20% higher sales than traditional stores and quicker returns.

Chipotle has opened its 1,500th Chipotlane, hitting the milestone less than 10 years after the format debuted and less than two years after the 1,000-unit mark. The milestone restaurant sits at 16680 SR 64 East in Bradenton, Florida.
The company has added 500 Chipotlanes in under two years, a pace that reflects the format's outsized economics. Executives have said Chipotlane stores generate 15% to 20% higher sales than traditional locations and deliver quicker returns on investment — a combination that has made the drive-thru pickup lane the default template for new development.
Chipotle launched the Chipotlane in 2018, with then-CEO Brian Niccol pitching its speed and "better experience." The format pairs a car lane with pre-paid digital orders, removing the friction of payment at the window. Adoption came fast: more than 60 locations were open within a year, and the count reached 100 by July 2020. The pandemic then accelerated the buildout as digital ordering surged.
Digital sales remain the engine. They still hover near 40% of Chipotle's total sales mix, and the Chipotlane exists largely to capture that demand at higher volumes without adding front-of-house congestion. The format effectively converts a digital order into a drive-thru transaction, letting the company push throughput on real estate it was already building.
The pipeline favors the format heavily. In 2025, Chipotle opened 334 company-owned restaurants, and 257 of them — roughly 77% — included a Chipotlane. This year the company expects to open 350 to 370 new restaurants. All of this sits inside a long-term target of 7,000 locations across the U.S. and Canada, up from nearly 4,000 at the end of 2025.
"Chipotlanes are a powerful growth engine for Chipotle, delivering greater convenience and access for our guests while driving strong restaurant performance. As we expand across North America, the format will remain central to our development strategy and our ability to bring Chipotle to more communities," Chief Operating Officer Jason Kidd said in a statement.
The Bradenton location also showcases the equipment strategy behind new builds. It features Chipotle's new Habanero restaurant design and the High-Efficiency Equipment Package, or HEEP, which incorporates technology aimed at improving back-of-house efficiencies — a direct play at labor productivity as the company scales.
The store's market is no accident. Chipotle is targeting 17% unit growth in Florida this year, making the state one of its most aggressive development territories.
The milestone lands amid a broader slowdown documented in the Technomic Top 500, where chain restaurant sales decelerated again in 2025 as consumers cut back on dining, even as coffee, beverages, snacks and chicken segments thrived. Chipotle's digital-heavy, drive-thru-inclusive model has kept it on the growth side of that divide.
With 500 Chipotlanes added in under two years and more than three-quarters of 2025's new builds carrying the format, the lane is now less an experiment than the standard unit design for Chipotle's remaining path to 7,000 restaurants.
