AHLA names Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island's Cook top resort GM for 2026
AHLA named Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island GM Greg Cook the 2026 resort General Manager of the Year, one of eight winners chosen from over 250 nominations.

The American Hotel & Lodging Association named Greg Cook, general manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island, the nation's 2026 General Manager of the Year in the resort property category. The association presented the award Tuesday during The Hospitality Show in Miami Beach, recognizing eight general managers in total for leadership, guest service and employee development.
Cook was the sole recipient in the resort category. A panel of fellow general managers and hospitality industry leaders selected the winners from more than 250 nominations nationwide, according to the AHLA.
What did the association cite?
The AHLA honored Cook for what it described as responsible leadership, high standards of service and the development of future hospitality leaders. The association framed the awards around three measures: guest satisfaction, employee engagement and leadership within the properties and their surrounding communities.
The association's own emphasis this year fell on investment in employees. AHLA said the 2026 awards recognize general managers who invest in their teams while maintaining high standards of hospitality. That framing matches the criteria the selection panel applied. It also matches the industry's current preoccupation with retention, though the announcement itself offered no turnover data, engagement scores or staffing figures to substantiate the claims.
"Hospitality is an industry where talent and hard work can take you anywhere," AHLA President and CEO Rosanna Maietta said. "This year's honorees are proof. They grew into leaders who develop their teams, drive results, and make their communities stronger."
The quote is warm. It is also short on specifics. Maietta did not define "results" in the statement, and the announcement did not attach revenue, occupancy or guest-satisfaction metrics to any of the eight winners.
Who is Greg Cook?
Cook leads one of Amelia Island's best-known luxury resorts, a property that anchors the local tourism economy on the barrier island in Northeast Florida. The announcement positioned the resort as a major presence in the regional hospitality sector, which the award now places under a national spotlight. Cook was the only 2026 resort-category winner, a distinction the association noted explicitly.
What the announcement did not include: Cook's tenure at the property, his career path within Marriott International, which owns the Ritz-Carlton brand, or any operational figures for the Amelia Island resort. The award citation, as released, rests on qualitative grounds alone.
How large is the award's footprint?
The AHLA represents more than 30,000 members across the U.S. hospitality industry, spanning major hotel brands and independent properties. The General Manager of the Year program places winners in a small executive cohort the association honors annually. Eight winners emerged from a nomination pool exceeding 250, a ratio of roughly one award per 31 nominations.
The recognition carries weight within the trade. It does not, by itself, carry financial or operational consequence for the property. Its value for the Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island lies in visibility — for recruitment in a tight labor market and for the resort's standing among competitors in the Florida luxury segment.
Whether that translates into measurable outcomes remains, as always with industry honors, a question the press release does not answer. The 2027 award cycle will reveal whether the association sustains its stated focus on employee investment or shifts criteria again.
