Radisson Hotel Group has certified four Radisson Blu properties in Stockholm and Copenhagen as Verified Net Zero hotels, bringing its total to nine hotels across the Nordics and UK against a stated target of 100 by 2030.

The additions — Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel Stockholm, Radisson Blu Royal Viking Hotel Stockholm, Radisson Blu Arlandia Hotel at Stockholm-Arlanda, and Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel Copenhagen — mark a shift in the program's center of gravity. The properties are not showcase new-builds but large, established meetings and events venues with complex existing infrastructure, and the group says their conversion demonstrates the model can scale.

"Growth and sustainability cannot be two separate conversations," Global CEO Federico J. González said. "If we want to build a stronger hospitality business for the long term, we need hotels that reduce their environmental impact while continuing to deliver for our guests, owners and people."

What does the certification actually cover?

Each hotel's carbon footprint is independently verified by TÜV Rheinland against the Net Zero Methodology for Hotels. The program spans:

  • Scope 1 and 2 emissions from energy use, as defined by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol
  • Scope 3 operational and supply chain emissions
  • 100% renewable energy across all hotel functions — heating, cooling, hot water, cooking, and spa and pool facilities — achieved through electrification and/or renewable energy purchasing
  • Supply chain overhaul, waste minimization, and re-evaluation of laundry, amenities and other emissions sources

"Every Verified Net Zero Hotel is independently verified by TÜV Rheinland against the Net Zero Methodology for Hotels, providing customers with confidence, transparency and credibility," said Inge Huijbrechts, Chief Sustainability & Security Officer at Radisson Hotel Group.

How the menus were engineered

On the F&B side, Radisson worked with Swedish partner Klimato to analyze the full food offering — in-room dining, meetings and events menus, and the breakfast buffet — and rework recipes to cut carbon. Menus carry carbon labels from A (lowest) to E (highest), emphasize fresh, seasonal ingredients, and reduce recipe carbon footprints by up to 40%, according to the group, without what it describes as compromise on taste.

Why the meetings segment matters

The four properties carry substantial group business. The Stockholm Waterfront Congress Centre offers 14,000 square meters of event space across 24 meeting rooms and hosts events of up to 3,000 participants; the building runs 1,040 square meters of solar panels, uses Klara Sjö water for cooling, and holds LEED Gold certification. Radisson Blu Arlandia provides 342 guest rooms, 24 meeting rooms and capacity for up to 771 people. The Copenhagen property adds 544 renovated rooms, two restaurants, two bars, 14 meeting rooms and event capacity above 2,000 guests.

For corporate buyers and meeting planners, the practical pitch is that established venues can deliver net zero stays and events without sacrificing capacity or flexibility — a response to mounting Scope 3 reporting pressure from corporate travel customers.

The economics argument is explicit: Radisson frames reduced energy and resource consumption as supporting more efficient operations and long-term resilience, positioning sustainability as an operating-cost lever rather than a marketing overlay. The group says learnings from these properties will inform how it scales the program across a portfolio of more than 1,575 hotels in operation and development across over 100 countries in EMEA and APAC.

The launches follow three recent Verified Net Zero openings in Norway, and Huijbrechts said the program "is no longer a concept or a pilot — it is a scalable reality." Radisson will need to average roughly a dozen additional certifications per year to reach the 100-hotel target by 2030.
