Oaks Hotels Enters Kyoto With Vacation Club Debut

Oaks Hotels has opened its first Kyoto property, Oaks Vacation Club Kyoto Shijo, debuting the brand's vacation-club format in central Kyoto's high-traffic Shijo district.

Oaks Hotels has opened its first property in Kyoto, debuting the Oaks Vacation Club Kyoto Shijo in the city's Shijo district. The opening marks the brand's entry into one of Japan's most visited urban markets.

The property operates under the Oaks Vacation Club format, the brand's vacation-ownership and club-style accommodation arm, rather than a conventional full-service hotel model. The Shijo location places the debut in central Kyoto, a corridor with heavy leisure and tourist traffic.

What does the opening signal?

The Kyoto debut extends the Oaks Hotels footprint into Japan's most established heritage-tourism destination. Kyoto's hotel market has seen sustained international demand, and club-format properties allow operators to capture extended-stay leisure guests alongside traditional overnight business.

The launch positions Oaks to compete in a segment — serviced and vacation-club residences — that sits between hotel rooms and short-term rental apartments, a category several international operators have targeted in Japanese gateway cities since travel demand recovered.

For the brand, the Shijo property serves as its Kyoto beachhead; the company has not disclosed additional Japan pipeline details beyond this debut.
