Chickpea Group has appointed the co-founder of Laine Pub Company as its first chair, a newly created role at the top of the fast-casual operator's governance structure.

The move gives Chickpea Group its first dedicated chair since the business was established, and pairs the group with an operator whose track record was built in the licensed pub sector rather than in fast-casual dining. Laine Pub Company, which the incoming chair co-founded, grew a portfolio of London pubs under private ownership before its sale to City Pub Group in a deal completed in 2023.

That background is the relevant credential here. Pub-group leadership at the founder level typically involves direct exposure to the pressures now shaping Chickpea Group's segment: labor cost control, premiumization of a value-led offer, and site-level profitability across a multi-unit estate. Bringing that experience into a chair role signals the group is preparing for a phase where unit economics and portfolio discipline, rather than brand launch alone, will decide outcomes.

The creation of a first chair also marks a structural step for the business.
